Subject: A Curious Spectator Sun Jan 12, 2014 4:16 am
As Monday night Raw rolls on, Christian and Drew McIntyre both stand at opposite sides of the ring, ready to kickoff the main event. But just as the bell is about to ring, Cody Rhodes' theme song hits the PA system and the Charlotte, North Carolina fans burst into a frenzy of cheers.
Cody walks out from the back, a huge smile present on his face. Both Christian and Drew look at one another, not sure what the former Intercontinental champion is doing out in the arena. Their curiosity is quickly put to rest as Cody makes his way down the ramp, around the ring, and over to the announcers table. He greets both King and Jim Ross before pulling up a chair and grabbing a headset.
Cody, now settled in nicely, looks up at both Christian and McIntyre then waves. The two shake their heads almost in unison as the bell rings, signaling the start of the match. Right away Drew gets the advantage, locking in a nasty headlock on his foe.
King
Well, it looks like we're going to have some company for this main event match, J.R.! How are you doing this evening, Cody?
Cody
I'm doing great, King! And how are you, Jim?
Jim Ross
I'm just dandy, Cody. If you don't mind me asking, just what are doing out here?
Cody
Ha ha, I don't mind at all. I just thought that it'd be nice to get a front row seat for this match. I mean, you've got my Royal Rumble opponent, Christian, taking on the man who's keeping my championship warm for me, Drew McIntyre!
King
Well nonetheless, we're glad to have you out here with us! Oh, oh, and there's a cover by Captain Charisma!
The ref slaps his hand down onto the mat twice, before Drew manages to throw Christian off of him. The Chosen One then gains control, wrenching Christian's arm behind his back.
King
So, Cody, what's your game plan going into the Royal Rumble against Christian? You two have a ton of history together, you know each others every move! Suffice to say that you'll have to think outside of the box for this one.
Cody
You said it, King. Christian knows me all to well, and I him. I'm going to have to throw everything I've got at him, and I expect him to do the same. But don't worry, I've got something up my sleeve, I always do.
Jim Ross
I don't like the sound of that . . .
Drew now changes his position so that he's on top of Christian, still pulling his arm back tightly.
King
Man, Drew really has the arm locked in tight, this could be the end for Christian here!
Cody
No, no, he'll fight back.
Christian quickly strikes McIntyre in the face with a closed fist, knocking the Scottish warrior back. Captain Charisma then comes to life, launching himself off of the middle rope.
There's a quick two count, but it's not enough. The two continue their battle as King and Cody Rhodes continue their conversation.
King
Along with your match against Christian, next Sunday, you're also in the Royal Rumble match. Of course, everyone knows what the winner of that match gets, a title shot of their choosing at the grandest stage of them all!
Cody
And you can guess which championship I'll be going after if I win- I'm sorry, when I win.
Jim Ross
You're awfully confident, Cody. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but you shouldn't underestimate the other competitors in that match.
Cody
I'm not underestimating anyone, Jim. They're underestimating me, and I'm out to prove them wrong. I am going to win the 2014 Royal Rumble match. Then I'm going to go on to beat Drew, or John or whoever else holds what's mine. I am the next Undisputed champion, you can bet on that.
With Drew now propped up against the ropes, Christian smacks him in the face and hops to the outside of the ring, bending McIntyre's neck back with him.
As Christian turns around, he is greeted by Cody's smiling face. The two friends just stare at one another for a brief moment before Christian shouts something at Rhodes, something that obviously upsets him. Cody takes off his headset and places it on the table, shaking his head and laughing, almost saying "are you talking to me!?"
Cody stands up as his former friend moves closer to the announcers table. Christian shouts again, and this time Cody responds, shouting back and pointing to the ring. Christian nods his head then dismisses Rhodes, turning back towards the ring. Inside, Drew is crouched down in the far corner, holding his neck in sheer pain. As Captain Charisma ducks through the ropes, McIntyre springs up and charges at him, nailing a Codebreaker that sends the peeps to their feet. Boos rain down onto the ring and even towards Cody as Drew rolls Christian over for the pin.
1 . . . 2 . . . 3! The boos become even louder as McIntyre slides off of his foe, holding his arm up in victory. Cody, with a disappointed look on his face, moves closer to the ring and shakes his head. The ref grabs Drew's arm and throws it up into the air, the ring announcer making the official announcement.
Ring Announcer
Here's your winner, the Undisputed champion . . . Drew . . . McIntyre!
Drew snatches his championship from the referee's hands then ditches the ring, backing up the ramp with a huge smile on his face. Christian now begins to stir, using the ropes to pull himself up. Cody walks back to the announcers table and stares up at his former RISE stable mate. With the fans still booing, Christian looks down at Cody and smirks, letting out a huge sigh. Cody mouths the words, "I'm sorry, Christian. I didn't mean to-" Christian turns away from Rhodes and puts his hands on his hips, nodding his head once again. He takes one last look over his shoulder before exiting the ring and walking up the ramp. The end of the show logo appears on the screen as Cody puts his head in his hands, taking a deep breath.
