As Monday night Raw returns from its commercial break, the current United States Champion, Cody Rhodes is already in the ring. With the U.S. title strung over his shoulder and a big grin on his face, he raises his mic up to break his long lasting silence.

Four weeks ago, I stood in this very ring side by side with a man I've called my friend and my enemy, Drew McIntyre. Three weeks ago I won the United States Championship at Summerslam, with the help of some friends. Two weeks ago, my own father, the man who raised me, the reason I'm here, slapped me in the face on national television and told me I wasn't his son anymore. Last week I went one on one with the season one winner of NXT, Bill Waters, the man who I'll be facing this weekend at Unforgiven. I've had a lot on my plate his past month, a lot indeed. But. . . Even through my own silence and my own sorrows, I'm happy. I am the United States Champion. Yes, Drew McIntyre is out with a serious injury, unable to even walk. Yes, Christian abandoned me after I got him his job back to go fight Christopher Daniels for The World Heavyweight Championship. Yes, my dad hates me and wants nothing to do with me. Yes, Bill Waters and I went to the limit last week and he came this close to beating me before the match went to a double disqualification. Things haven't been going my way, they've been going horribly, some would say. But I won't say that. Because I know that things are going to get better from here on out. I know that this weekend I will beat Bill Waters and retain my United States Championship. And I know that I am the best that this company has ever seen, that this company has ever had and that this company ever will have. I am Cody Rhodes. I am WCF.
Cody slowly lowers his mic down and takes a look around at the screaming fans. Most are cheering, but the boos are still present, loud enough to be heard. He cracks a crooked smirk, nodding his head up and down, taking his time with what he's doing.
Rhodes
My luck may be running low, but I don't need it. Just like I don't need any of you, just like I don't need anyone in the back, just like I don't need Drew, just. . . Like I don't need my father. All of you, have been dragging me down, since the first day I came to this company. Through everything that happened with Drew, through the switch to WCW, through the era of RISE, through my fight against Daniels, through my reign as U.S. champion up to now, you've done nothing but beat me while I'm down. I tried seeing things from your point of view, I ditched Dolph, taking the rights of RISE with me. I took the fight to Bad Influence, up until the very end of WCW! And all any of you worthless, pathetic, excuses for fans did was spit in my face. But not anymore, I'm done with YOU people getting in my way. It's my time, it's Cody Rhodes' time. And THIS time, I'm going to be on my own. Like I should have been from the beginning!
With a deep breath Rhodes brings his mic down from his mouth, putting his head back and laughing for a few moments. He then quickly snaps back, peering out at the sea of fans who are all booing now, letting him know what they think of him. But he doesn't care, he simply smiles as he raises his mic back up.
Rhodes
Do you honestly think for a second I care what any of you think about me? You play no role in my life anymore. The only thing that matters to me right now is my championship. And when I put boot to ass against Bill Waters this Sunday, I will further cement my place in this company as it's greatest superstar! And there's nothing that any of you, or anyone in the back can do or say about it. Because they don't matter, just like you don't matter. And people who don't matter, don't get the spotlight. I am Cody Rhodes, and the spotlight, will be forever mine.
Cody tosses his mic to the ground, it hits the canvas hard dropping out of sight. He then raises his title high up into the air and once again puts his head back, smiling from ear to ear.
