The WCF is quickly becoming one of, if not the most, dominant brands in professional wrestling. There are many stars who have been in the WCF and many more who are joining. The best wrestlers from all over the world are coming to this brand, and it can be difficult to keep up with all the stars. That's why us here at WCF.com have decided to start sitting down and interviewing the wrestlers of the WCF. There will be weekly interviews that are exclusive to WCF.com. So with that being said, I present to you the fourth WCF.com Exclusive Interview...
The Golden Rhodes by Dave Turner
On December 30th, 2013 I arrived at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus Ohio a few hours earlier than usual. A big card was lined up and I was hoping to get an interview or two before the show was underway. I managed to run into a mainstay here in the WCF, Cody Rhodes. Cody made his WCF debut in early January last year, quickly shacking up with Drew McIntyre to form the Dashing One's. The two went on to challenge for the Tag Team Championships at the Royal Rumble, but they fell short. The next night on Raw, Cody blamed Drew for their loss, sparking one of the greater feuds in WCF history, actually winning Feud of the Year 2013. During Cody and Drew's feud, Rhodes met Edge, and the two quickly became friends. Together, they formed the stable 'The Corporation' which also included Christian. But after realizing they had no need for Captain Charisma, Edge and Cody kicked him out the group and out of the company, injuring him severely. At the first annual Wrestlemania event, the fans and superstars alike, were shocked when Dolph Ziggler helped Edge to retain his Hardcore championship in their fatal-4-way match. It was clear that Dolph had joined Edge and Cody's faction, dawning a new name, 'RISE'. The three were drafted to WCW together as a package deal, where they recruited CM Punk into their stable. Together, the four dominated WCW, winning the Tag Team championships, the T.V. Championship, the United States Championship, having numerous World Championship matches and Cody even had his run as the general manager of Nitro. Many months later, WCW fell, and Cody was drafted back to the WCF, RISE now in the past. Cody would go on to win the United States Championship at SummerSlam, holding the title for 107 days, the second longest reign in WCF history. Add all of this together along with a Slammy for Heel of the Year in 2013 and Cody Rhodes is the exact person I wanted to talk to. Cody invited me to a back room in the arena and we sat down and started to talk.
DT: Cody, I've got to ask before we begin, why no more mustache?
CR: (Laughing) It itches.
DT: Cody, you come from a popular wrestling family, was there pressure growing up to be a big time wrestler?
CR: To be completely honest with you, no. My dad, Dusty Rhodes, never pressured me to be a wrestler. He wanted me to do whatever I wanted to, whatever made me happy. It just turns out that wrestling is what I love to do. It runs in the family. My dad and my brother are my biggest role models. I wanted to be just like them. And I'm proud to say that I'm a part of such a great and rich wrestling background. I love what I do, I've always loved it and I always will love it.
DT: Christian, a long time associate of yours, has recently returned to the WCF. It seems like things are picking up where they left off?
CR: Man, with the kinda history that we have, it's tough to say where we stand sometimes, you know? I can understand that he's angry after what Edge and I did to him all that time ago. I really can. Then, when he came back and we formed 'The Enterprise' together, everything was going so well. Until of course he won the Undisputed Championship and decided it was a good idea to take some drugs the DAY before his drug test. Man, the guys an idiot, but he's a close friend. What's happening right now between us is awkward. We're friend, we're not friend, we're enemies, we're best pals. I don't really know anymore. But I'll tell you this, we're going to settle it at the Royal Rumble, no matter who wins, him or I, we're going to bury the hatchet and get on with our lives, as friends.
DT: You are a pretty decorated champion in the WCF, what was the most accomplishing title you won? And what's the next title in your sights?
CR: Wow, thanks Dave. I have had my fair share of championship gold. But of course, my most accomplishing title would have to be the United States Championship. Which I won at SummerSlam in a fatal-4-way match between Kazarian, Bobby Roode and CM Punk, who was the current champion at the time. I had SUCH a great time carrying that belt around, I held it with honor and I defended it with everything I had. 107 days I held it, the second longest reign in WCF history behind Christopher Daniels' World Championship reign. I had some of the best feuds over it, Triple H, Stone Cold, legends in this business! Guys I never thought I'd get to wrestle, let alone feud with! I left my legacy in the company by winning that championship. What's next? You know what's next Dave. The Undisputed Championship is what's next for Cody Rhodes. Winning the 2014 Royal Rumble is what's next. I am going to headline this years Wrestlemania, one way or another.
DT: If you could fight anyone in the world, alive or dead, who would it be?
CR: Hmmm . . . That's a tough one. Anyone? In the WHOLE world? . . . Kenny King.
DT: Who would like like to fight most in the WCF?
CR: Now, I've fought nearly everyone that's on the WCF roster. And there's only ONE guy who I'd want to take on right now. And yes, you guessed it, it's Drew McIntyre. He has what I want, and I want what he has. It's only a matter of time Drew, I'm coming for yah!
DT: Cody, last question...What message, if any, do you have for the WCF locker room right now?
CR: Ugh, watch out for the armpit kick of death?
It was nice getting to sit down with Cody Rhodes and talk about his career and later on after the interview talking about great wrestling stories from today's era as well as his father Dusty's era. Cody Rhodes will be in action at WCF's Royal Rumble in just a couple short weeks! Also don't miss Cody every week on WCF Monday Night RAW and Thursday Night Smackdown. This concludes the fourth WCF.com interview, The Golden Rhodes. Please comment below with who you'd like to see interviewed next.
