Subject: 'Dashing' Cody Rhodes Wed Sep 25, 2013 6:33 am
As Raw is returning from it's commercial break, the screen fades in to find veteran backstage interviewer, Josh Mathews standing side by side with the United States Champion, Cody Rhodes.
Josh
Hello everybody and welcome back to Monday night Raw! I'm Josh Mathews, joined at this time by none other than Cody Rhodes!
Cody stops him before he can speak again.
Cody
Eh, eh, The United States Champion, Cody Rhodes.
Josh
Right, sorry about that, The United States Champion, Cody Rhodes.
Cody
That's better, Josh.
Mathews nods his head up and down before continuing on with his interview.
Josh
Last night at Unforgiven we saw you successfully defend your United States Championship against the season one winner of NXT, Bill Waters. Do you have any comments or thoughts on your title defense?
Cody lets out a small, almost unnoticeable laugh. He then leans back and a smile is shown on his face.
Cody
Hmmm, thoughts or comments. . . Let's see, I said I would beat him, and then I beat him. It's truly an incredible thing to ponder. It's almost as if I knew I were better than him. As if in my own mind I had already won the match. I mean, did you see the match yourself, Josh? I completely, 100% demolished him. And to be honest, I expected more out of the season one winner of NXT. Here's this guy, who's getting the opportunity of a lifetime, and what does he do? He blows it. I'm sure that's not the only thing he blows either. But I digress, Bill Waters is in the past, back down at the bottom where he belongs. While I am moving forward. Getting on with my life, letting everyone see what a true champion looks like. So here I am, on to the next guy who thinks he's good enough to take down myself and win the right to be called The United States Champion. And who do you think that'll be, Josh? Hmmm?
Before Mathews can reply, he's cut off by a new figure in the room.
???
I'll tell you who, Cody.
The man places his hand on Cody's shoulder and pats it a few times before the camera pans out to reveal that it's none other than John Laurinaitis, the general manager of Friday night Smackdown! Rhodes instantly rolls his eyes at the sight of Big Johnny and quickly smacks the GM's hand away.
Laurinaitis
Whoa, whoa, relax now. There's no reason to be hostile with me, Cody. I just came by to refresh your memory as to who will be taking that title away from you in just four weeks time. Last week right here on Monday night Raw, I, along with Stephanie McMahon, announced that Triple H will be getting his shot at your championship come No Mercy! It's what the people want Cody, and what the people want, I give to them.
Rhodes turns around to face Laurinaitis and the two lock eyes for a moment, battling inside of their heads. The silence is broken however when Cody speaks up.
Cody
Of course, of course, it's what the people want. We all know how much of a people person you are Big Johnny! I'm actually a huge people person myself! I love people! And if the people truly want to see a sixty year old dinosaur take me on for my title, then that's what they'll get. Triple H vs Cody Rhodes!
Cody allows a smile to stretch across his face as he pats Johnny on the back then walks off. Laurinaitis waits for Rhodes to get a safe distance away then takes out his cellphone and dials a number. He begins to talk as the segment fades to the next match.
Later in the night
Cody's new theme music begins to die down as he stands in the ring, a mic in his hand. Once it does he takes a long look around before bringing said mic up to speak.
Cody
. . . Eh. What to do, what to say? I actually have a lot to say, I just don't know how to say it. I guess I could start off by saying that here I stand, still your United States Champion! Yeah, that's a good start. I guess I could then go on to say that I'm much better than any of you or anyone in the back, then talk about how Dashingly good looking I am. But there's something else that's on the top of my mind, something that's been bugging me tonight. John Laurinaitis. Now don't get me wrong, he generally gets on my nerves every night. But the way that he came up to me today and flat out told me that Triple H was going to beat me. . . HA! Is that. . . Is that a joke? Is Mr. Laurinaitis a comedian now? I'd like to think so, because for him to think that that old bag of bones could actually take me on is just, well it's ludicrous! Let's all be honest with each other, Triple H isn't what he used to be. Not that he actually used to be much of anything, but he's much, much worse now. He's tried so many times to come back here and make a name for himself again, but, meh. He's failed countless times, over and over again. And now that Big Johnny has gotten his hopes up again, I've got to deal with it! John, you slimy, vindictive, worm, you can resurrect all of of the ancient warriors you want, but none of them are going to be able to take this championship away from me. Especially Hunter. So why don't you just come out here, get in this ring, and call of your old, dying hound of justice. You don't want me as an enemy, John. We used to be good friends, you started by career when you formed RISE! So do us all a favor and come shake my hand so that we can put this all behind us!
Cody lowers his mic then turns to the entrance way, awaiting Laurinaitis' arrival.
(Open to Laurinaitis, then Triple H, then leave it open to me again.)

The fans cheer wildly as 'Mr. Excitement' steps on the steps, flashing his signature smile and waving to the fans. He makes his way down the ramp, giving out a few high fives along the way before he makes his away around the ring and to the announce table. He grabs a mic and shakes the hands of Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross before climbing up the steel steps and into the ring. Before Big Johnny gets the chance to speak, the crowd around him bursts into a 'People Power' chant, causing Big Johnny's smile to become bigger. After a few moments, the crowd finally settles down and allows the man to speak.
John Laurinaitis: Hello ladies and gentlemen, I am the General Manager of Smackdown, the Leader of 'People Power', and the residential 'Mr. Excitement' of the World Championship Federation, John Laurinaitis. As such, I would like to address Mr. Rhodes personally on his request and would like to further elaborate as to what I meant by stating that Triple H will be taking the title away from you at No Mercy. First, allow me to start with your request of calling of my . . . 'old hound'. You see, I feel the same way you do here Cody, I don't think Triple H should have a title shot. But you seem to think I do simply because he is my client. However, I was not the one who awarded him the shot, as that was on the well being of the C.E.O. and General Manager of Monday Night RAW, Stephanie McMahon.
The crowd boos at hearing the name of Stephanie. Big Johnny takes this time to allow Cody to soak in this 'new found' information.
John Laurinaitis: Now that is out of the way, allow us to move forward onto exactly what I meant by 'when Triple H takes the title away from you'. You see Cody, I don't doubt your abilities and in fact I respect them, but Triple H has done more than enough on his own, and definitely more than you have. You see Cody, I watched you from the time you first stepped foot in this company when it was simply WWF. You were alone and quiet, until you met your best friend in a young Drew McIntyre and you two relieved your glory days from WWE. Then from there you went on to be a part of RISE with Edge and then you added Dolph Ziggler and then CM Punk and you all decimated the WWF and WCW. Then you went back to Drew and then went on to form a new stable that ultimately failed in The Enterprise. The reason Triple H will beat you Cody, is because you are alone, and you can't make it alone. In fact, I am certain. . .
Before Big Johnny can continue, his client's theme song hits the arena speakers bringing the crowd to another thunderous cheer.
*The fans give a mixture of cheers and boos when they see Triple H start walking out of the stage with his signature sledgehammer in his right hand*
*Triple H walks in the ring and gives John Laurinaitis a hand shake. Triple H then grabs a microphone and looks at Cody Rhodes*
Triple H: "Sorry about the interruption John. I just couldn't bare it not be in this little argument you guys are having out here. Besides, my ego led me to come here and told me to say my opinion. So that's what I'm going to do."
*Triple H looks to Cody while Cody gives him a look of not caring*
Triple H: "What John Laurinaitis was just going to say Cody, was I AM certain that you're going to have a tough time beating me at No Mercy. And yes, I did hear you two say I wasn't as good as I used to be and didn't deserve this title shot that I've been rewarded by Stephanie McMahon. I somewhat agree with all of that. I did lose some of my skill that I had from the past, and I just came back about 4 weeks ago and haven't had a single Raw match until tonight when I go up against, the WCF Undisputed Champion, Christian. The man who I took down last Monday Night Raw when I Pedigree'd him down on this very mat."
*The fans cheer Hunter when he stated Pedigreeing Christian last week*
Triple H: "And you don't look surprised Cody. You don't look surprised that I took out the reining WCF champion. Didn't you see me take him out? Or were you just gazing in my glory that you also lost in the past. John is right Cody. I may have lost my talent back then, but we can see that you lost more. RISE, gone. Drew, gone. The Enterprise, well that just was a bad move on your part. And now you still have your preciouses United States Title. Boy, how is it being face of the US while every citizen here hates you. At least I have fans Cody. Fans that respect me and I somewhat respect them back, while you never respect anybody. You and Christian are pretty much the same when you think about it. You both are rising talent that just has no where else to go, that's why you suck up to the women that also has the power to screw you and me over."
Triple H: "Cody, I have a question about you. You see, I have my choice of weapon. It's not my brains, it's not my ego, but its this."
*Triple H raises his sledgehammer*
Triple H: "Have you ever thought that you could possibly lose to a weapon in our title match at No Mercy. Because this weapon right here has taken out so many of the people who got in my way. But have you ever thought that you could be very well just lose to this very item right here. But the thing is, do you have a weapon?"
*Triple H walks closer to Cody and waits for his response*

Actually, Hunter, no, no I don't have a "weapon of choice". Unlike you, I'm good at my job. I don't need a sledgehammer to get to the top of this business. But like I said before, you're getting old, you've lost your flair and your only resort is that weapon in your hand. You know, just like I know, that you just can't get it done anymore. You're weak, frail, absent. You should have retired and stayed home, Hunter. You don't belong in this ring anymore. John may be an idiot and a backstabber, but even he's smart enough to see that this match is just a waste of everyone's time. Including mine. So if you think for even a second that your going to walk into No Mercy with that sledgehammer, oh, think again. If you really want to prove to me that you've still got it, that you can tango with me, then you'll be a man for once and fight me like one. If not, then I guess it just goes to show that you can talk a decent game, but to call yourself one is far from the truth.
Cody lowers his mic and steps forward, he and Hunter are now face to face, the fans screaming their names. John, sensing the hostility between the two, breaks them up and pushes both the men back. Cody shakes his head a few times then takes a deep breath.
Cody
You know, I used to respect you. I looked up to you, I idolized you. But now, I look at you and I see what could have been, what's become of. You're going to be another Ric Flair or Mick Foley. You'll keep coming back and coming back, always searching for the admiration of these fans but getting none of it. You don't know when to call it quits, when to just go home. No, now that your wife's in charge around here you just had to have another comeback, because what year would be complete without a disappointing Triple H comeback! The fact of the matter is that I'm going to beat you, and I'm going to do it fairly like the champion that I am. I don't take the easy way out unlike you, Hunter. Yes, I've always been backed by friend in the past, Drew, Edge, Punk, Christian, all of them! Drew and I burst onto the scene here in WCF and had one of the best feuds the wrestling industry has ever seen with some of the best matches ever preformed to boot! Edge, Christian, Dolph, Punk and I dominated WCF and WCW, winning endless amounts of gold and ruling over anyone who stepped in our way. Christian and I tried to get things rolling again but your wife had to go and screw things up, as usual! So yes, I've always had backup, but I've never, ever, taken the cheap way out. I put my life on the line when I compete, and I do it because I love this sport. I don't do it because I can or because I need to promote some new straight-to-dvd movie of mine. And hell! I think I'm doing pretty well for myself so far in my singles career! I'm the current, reigning, defending, United States Champion of the world! And I still will be after No Mercy, because unlike you, Hunter, I'm a man of my word, I'm a fighter, I'm the face of this company!
Rhodes lowers his mic and stands tall, letting his speech sink into the audience and Triple H. He then walks over to Big Johnny and looks at him for a moment, nodding his head before raising his mic one last time.
Cody
John, you may respect my talents, but I don't respect yours. Mostly because you don't have any. You did indeed bring me into this business and start me on my path to glory, but that's all you did, you started it, I did the rest. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate everything you've done for me, but that's the extent of it. I hate everything that you stand for, John. I hate your suit, I hate the way that you pander to these people, I hate the clients that you have and most importantly, I hate your face! I hate that happy-go-lucky, look at me, people power, stupid, idiotic face of yours! And it doesn't matter if Stephanie made the match, if you made the match or if Vince himself came back to life and booked the match, you are no longer on my good side. So what I suggest is that you drag his old ass down to the gym and get to preparing, because come No Mercy, he'll be in for the fight of his mediocre life!
Cody takes a step back, lowering his mic and turning to the ropes. Hunter stands in the corner, watching as Rhodes goes to exit the ring, John stands in the center of the two, almost paralyzed by Cody's words. John is caught off guard when Cody swings back around and plants his mic square into his face, knocking the leader of people power off of his feet. He falls to mat and is instantly knocked out, Hunter reacts as fast as he can, but is to late as Cody is already half way up the ramp. The United States Champion's theme hits the speakers as Hunter crouches down near John's unconscious body, holding his head up, trying to talk with him. The show fades on Cody locking eyes with The Game, their battle now begun.
