Curt Hennig and Fandango are locked in an intense battle, as Fandango slingshots off the rope and hits a leg drop on Hennig. Fandango starts to taunt at the fans, dancing and strutting around as he goes. Hennig slowly gets to his feet, and just as Fandango turns around, he gets hit with a perfectplex
JR: THIS COULD BE IT! WE COULD HAVE A NEW US CHAMPION!
1-2...3!
The fans erupt in a typical mixed response for Hennig, as he gets to his feet, and the ref raises his arm. Hennig then starts chirping to the camera
Hennig: This is what I said would happen. The perfect champion, right here!
King: Now he's going to have an even bigger ego, JR! JR: That may be true King, but on this night, Hennig earned it. Going into the new year we have a brand new United States champion!
Hennig makes his way out of the ring clutching the belt, and smirking as he walks backwards up the ramp.
Matt Striker catches up with Curt Hennig backstage for this exclusive online interview
Striker: CURT! CURT! I mean Mr. Hennig! Can I get your reaction on -
Hennig glares at his backstage nemesis, but actually cracks a smile after a few seconds
Hennig: I thought you wouldn't have the balls to interview me again, toadie. I'm gonna keep this very short and simple for all the fools out there like you, Striker. I simply did exactly what I claimed I would do. I went out there and fulfilled my new years resolution of becoming the perfect champion that these United States so sorely need and deserve. No longer will we be subjected to a dancing fool with fetish for his own name. Not anymore, America.
King: A fetish?
Hennig: I earned this title the American way, ladies and gentlemen. I fought off a great athlete in Kurt Angle, and then I had to wait until tonight to figure out exactly who I would be facing and which title it would be for. Do you have any idea how much planning I had to do Striker? How much work had to go into this?
Striker trembles a bit
Striker: I know you've worked hard, and you've definitely earned it sir...
Hennig: In tough times like these when the economy is unstable and people don't know where to turn, I will be the leader this country needs. Whoever my next challenger is, I can guarantee they won't be the calibre they need to be to dethrone the perfect United States Champion. Now get the hell out of my face, you plebeian.
With this, Striker looks relieved and backs out of the shot, leaving Hennig smirking in the locker room. (promo closed - feedback accepted)
